The following text is from the original listed building designation:
HADLOW CHURCH STREET TQ 63 49 7/52 Pair of Wells headstones approx - 2m north east of the vestry of the Church of St Mary
GV II
Pair of headstones. Dated 1726 and 1739 in memory of members of the Wells family. Sandstone. Upright slabs, both standing approx 500mm high with curvilinear shaped heads and inscribed with large Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The right one has a flat face and the head is crudely carved with a skull and crossbones; the inscription records the death of Richard Wells in 1726. The left headstone has a double head and recessed front panel. The inscription is divided into 2 columns, one for John Wells (d. 1739) and the other for his wife Ann (date illegible).
