Summary
A pump house at Style Place Brewery which was constructed circa 1886-88 and worked a nearby artesian well which is thought to be the first tube-bored artesian well in Kent. It is approximately 860 feet down to the Thames aquefer and was dug to serve the brewery. The building is a tower-like structure, square on plan, with a round-headed opening on the southwest side, and small openings at ground level on the other three sides. It is built of brick in an irregular mixture of red and ochre-yellow brick, although the colours are used deliberately on the cornices and window heads. Part of the structure was repaired following damage from the GreatStorm of 1987
