Barn converted to a house. Probably C17, converted circa 1948 and some circa 1960 modernisation. Timber-framed, exposed frame on west side, weatherboarded to east and south end is underbuilt with C20 brick and clad with peg-tile above; C20 brick stack; peg-tile roof.
Plan: Former threshing barn on a north south axis with south end end onto the lane. Originally it had opposing full height double doorways onto central threshing floor. Both doorways have midstreys. The rear (northern) end is still open to the roof. Rest is floored with a 2-room plan. Large front (south) end sitting room has western lateral stack. Services and kitchen in eastern midstrey and lean-to outshots behind. Entrance through western midstrey.
Exterior: Windows around the house are mostly small C20 casements with glazing bars. Front gable end has central paired casements on each floor. Large glazed panels to west and rear end to the open section. Western midstrey -used as entrance porch but original front arch is blocked and present entry has been knocked through the southern side. Roof is gable-ended to front, hipped to rear with a gablet and midstrey roofs are hipped.
Interior: Largely the rest of the C20 conversion but original framed structure is apparently well-preserved. 5 bays with middle rails. Arch braces from wall posts to wall plates. Jowled wall posts carry collared tie- beam trusses. Arch-braced, clasped side purlins and queen struts.
The Barn is part of an attractive group of listed buildings in the vicinity of Barnes Place (q.v.).
