In the entry for GOODS STATION ROAD 6/340 No 14
the address shall be amended to GOODS STATION ROAD No 18 and the description shall be amended to read
Purpose built ironmongers store, now shop. Built in 1888 with shop front altered in C20. Front of cast iron with glazed panels the other elvations brick. Hipped slate roof with pitched roof light and eaves tiles. 3 storeys. Front elevation has end rendered pilasters through 1st and 2nd floors surmounted by stylized brackets with ball finials. Wide cornice and fascia bands. Continuous 6 light window divided by pilasters with flat arches between. The interior contains a central galleried atrium supported on twisted cast iron columns on the ground floor and plain cylindrical columns on the 1st floor. Wooden 2 tiered balustrading to open well and boarded panelling. Simple roof of queen post type construction. Included for technological innovation as an early example of structural ironwork in a shop. The rear part of no 18 is not of special interest.
