Summary

In 1910, when a bore hole was sunk for a soil analysis, the fragments of a 1st century BC or AD cooking pot or store jar were found at a depth of 3ft - 4ft 6in in association with burnt earth and charcoal, beneath was found the skeleton of a horse or ox. The potsherds are now in Maidstone Museum.

Full Description

TR 08152762: In 1910, when a bore hole was sunk for a soil analysis, the fragments of a C1st BC or AD cooking pot or store jar were found at a depth of 3ft - 4ft 6in in association with burnt earth and charcoal, beneath was found the skeleton of a horse or ox. The potsherds are now in Maidstone Museum. (1) In 1910 a borehole produced pottery and animal bone. This was of late-Iron Age date perhaps dating from 1st century BC or C1st AD. More material was collected in the same general area some years later. (2) Additional bibliography (3-5)
