[TQ 5613 5324] Roman Burial Ground [NAT] (1) "Mr Harrison supplies a note of [Roman] pottery having been found on One Tree Hill, which I have since ascertained was a cemetery, where several urn-burials were met with."(2) No details of the cemetery have been recorded (3) and a note of Harrison's dated 3.6.1888, refers only to "the supposed Roman cemetery" close to the old road from Fawke Common to Bitchet Common. (2-5) The supposed site of this Burial Ground falls in an area of old stone quarries. The present whereabouts of the pottery is now known and the O.S. siting could not be confirmed. (6) The site now belongs to the National Trust. (7)
