TQ 64 SE                BRENCHLEY         MAIDSTONE ROAD, MATFIELD                                           (east side) 6/149                                     South east lychgate to the                                           Chapel of Ease of St Luke
GV                                        II
Lychgate.  Probably 1870s and contemporary with the Chapel of Ease, which was designed by Basil Champneys.  Timber with a clay-tile roof.  Plainer than the north west lychgate (q.v.) with a gabled roof on short, shaped brackets above a shallow Tudor arched lintel on 2 plain posts.  Pair of rustic gates similar to those on the north west lychgate.
Included for group value with the church.
