Full Description

TR 068202. At Denge pumping station there are two disused compound horizontal engines of 1905 and 1934, probably destined to be scrapped. Also a disused 1939 inverted vertical compound engine. (1,2)

Pumping station complex from 1904 onwards. Plain single storey red brick engine house with double pitched asbestos roof, round headed part blocked windows, later extensions with double pitched slate roofs. NMR 1977 visit records that engine house contained horizontal compound engine of 1905 and a 1934 side by side compound engine by Worthington Simpson. Plant said to be out of use and partly dismantled. Site also contains three cylindrical reservoirs, one large example of iron/steel, a smaller example of similar construction, and a small reinforced concrete/rendered brick example with four electric pumps on the roof. Other buildings include a single storey corrugated iron shed/garage and a blue brick water tower. (3)
