The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 64 SW PEMBURY MAIDSTONE ROAD (south side) 5/389 Nos 6 and 7 Hawkwell Cottages
GV II
Pair of houses. Mid C19. Ground floor level is painted brick, timber-framed above and tile-hung including a band of scallop-shaped tiles. Brick stacks and chimneyshafts. Peg-tile roof.
Plan: Pair of contemporary houses facing north north west, say north. Each is one-room wide and 2-rooms deep. Each is a mirror plan of the other. Paired central doorways to entrance hall and stairs and slightly projecting end stcks.
2 storeys with attics in the roofspace.
Exterior: Overall symmetrical 2-window front of 16-pane sashes and casements to the gabled dormers. Central paired doorways contain C20 doors. 3-bay verandah across the front on plain timber posts with cusped brackets.
Interiors: Not inspected.
