Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 64 SW PEMBURY OLD CHURCH ROAD
5/405 Row of 3 Driver headstones approx 6m south of the tower of the Old Church of St Peter GV II
Row of 3 headstones. Dated between 1709 and 1780 in memory of members of the Driver family. All are upright sandstone slabs with curvilinear shaped heads standing between approx 500mm and lm high. All are inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and the latest (the left one in memory of Elizabeth Driver) includes italics. The left one is the tallest. It has a double head each carved with a winged cherubs head in profile facing the other. The inscription is very worn. It was erected in memory of Elizabeth Driver but the legible date of 1780 may refer to one of her relation's death. The centre headstone also has a double head. The front is recessed and each head has an inscribed floral pattern. The inscription records the death of Robert Driver in 1709. The right headstone has a recessed front and it records the death of another Robert Driver in 1719.
