The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 55 41 SPELDHURST SPELDHURST HILL (north side), SPELDHURST 12/551 Morley chest tomb approx 7m south of the tower of the Church of St Mary the Virgin GV II
Chest tomb. Dated 1776 in memory of Howard Morley. Sandstone. Chest tomb is rectangular in plan with large moulded baluster corners. Flat lid with moulded edges and moulded plinth. Plain sides. South side is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and records the death of Howard Morley in 1776.
