The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 55 41 SPELDHURST SPELDHURST HILL (north side), SPELDHURST 12/566 Pair of Friend headstones approx 3m south of the porch of the Church of St Mary the Virgin GV II
Pair of adjacent headstones. Both are late C18 in memory of members of the Friend family. Both are similar upright sandstone slabs standing approx 500mm high. Their shaped heads are inscribed with crossed arrows above fielded panels inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The left one records the death of Winifred Drury and the right one commemorates the death of Martha Drury. In both cases the date of their death is buried.
