The following text is from the original listed building designation:
TQ 64 SW PEMBURY OLD CHURCH ROAD
5/402 Chapman headstone approx 8m south of the nave of the Old Church of St Peter GV II
Headstone. Dated 1760 in memory of John Chapman. Upright sandstone slab standing approx 1.6m high. Its shaped head contains a good carving representing the Flight into Egypt. The first line of the inscription is in Gothic lettering; the rest is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and records the death of John Chapman in 1760.
