TQ 64 SW CAPEL CHURCH LANE
5/229 Pair of Hubble headstones approx 3.5m east of the chancel of the Church of St Thomas A Becket GV II
Pair of headstones. Mid C18 in memory of members of the Hubble family. 2 good headstones, each an upright slab of sandstone standing approx l.l-1.3m high with shaped head carved with a biblical scene in low relief. The inscriptions begin in Gothic lettering but are mostly in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering including some italics. The left (northern) one represents the Good Samaritan and the inscription records the death of Thomas Hubble, senior, in 1740. The right one features a Judgement Day scene and commemorates the death of Thomas Hubble in 1764 and his son John in 1763.
