Full Description

[TQ 46404359] There was a bloomery situated at Smith Hook, Hever, Lat. 51 deg 10' 20" N., Long 0 deg 5' 40" E. Very little cinder to befound in the ploughed field. It can only have been a very small bloomery. Black glassy cinder, similar to blast furnace slag. (1) No evidence to confirm the site of this bloomery was found either in Smith Hook Field or at the site noted by Straker. The farmer (a) could offer no information on the site. (2) TQ 464436 Hever - appears in a checklist of all known Wealden bloomerysites. (3)
