Shipbourne - there are remains of a moated enclosure in the lower part of the Park. (1) Note by Ben Harrison "7.9.1879: To Fairlawn ... The earthworks on the slope below are said to be the site of the old Fairlawn House ..." (2) [Centred at TQ 5921 5270] "Old Fairlawn house or castle once stood clos by" [the supposed stone circle(s) - TQ 55 SE 6]. (3) At TQ 5943 5260 there is a near square platform surrounded by a dry ditch and an ancillary complex of pond-bays, enclosures, leets, fishponds and steadings: all under pasture and in fair condition. No confirmatory evidence was gained but it seems reasonable to assume that this is the site of the Fairlawne House. Surveyed at 1:2500.
