Monument record TR 03 NE 21 - Mill pond and dam, Park wood
Summary
An earthen bank or dam cuts across a steep wooded valley in the northern part of Park Wood. Sixty metres long, this dam is still over 4 metres high in the middle, through which a small stream runs in a gap obviously intended for a sluice gate, with a similar gap 10 metres east of the first. A mill pond bay at TR 07283890 is 80.0m in length, with maximum height of 3.0m. There is a spill way at the eastern end with an original break, for the wheel, close by. Midway, a breach carries a small stream through. Since the water supply is local and of no great amount, and the pond would have been fairly small, the water mill may have been merely an alternative source of power supply to the nearby windmill (TR 03 NE 20).
