HAWKHURST HIGH STREET TQ 7430-7530 (south side)
16/357 The Little Manor, wall and water pump attached GV II Stable outhouses now house. Mid C19, altered mid C20. Sandstone blocks with plain tiled roof. Two storeys on plinth with shallow plat band and roof with kneelered parapet gables and stacks to rear left and projecting at end right. Segmentally headed sashes to left and right on first floor, with small casement and centre left 3 arched light mullioned window, also segmentally headed. Three segmentally headed sashes (all with vertical glazing bars) on ground floor, and 2 narrow lights to right in blocked segmentally headed openings. Rib and stud door to centre left with flat hood on rounded projecting wall piers. Projecting from centre left a red brick pier, capped and with cast iron lamp stand. Attached to the wall on a wooden post a cast iron hand-pump, with domed head, water spout and curved handle. The building was formerly part of the service wing to Theobalds, a C17 house much altered C19 and demolished 1961, home from 1902-23 to a locally noted architect and benefactor Henry G Liley.
