TR 07803440. A Romano-British site at Aldington has been found during recent ploughing. Surface finds comprise tiles, bricks, sherds of coarse wares, and a piece of Samian. (1)

Fragments of brick, Romano-British in date, were found in the area of the above siting in the newly-ploughed field. The site is at the foot of steep slopes on the old coast-line. Enquiries of the farmworkers were negative. The farm owner lives in London. (2)

In 2013 a resistivity survey was carried out which identified a large rectangular structure and a subsequent excavation identified it as being a 2nd/3rd century villa. The full extent of the building was not confirmed but it is probable that the western half was exposed and measured 12 m x 10 m. The villa consisted of low ragstone walls. Several rooms were revealed accompanied by finds of brick, tile, pottery, lead weights and a votive pot containing burnt animal remains. (4)
