The following text is from the original listed building designation:
GOUDHURST HASTINGS ROAD TQ 63 SE (north side)
8/177 South Lodge II Gate lodge. Circa 1840. Ashlar sandstone and plain tiled roof. L-shaped. Single storey with moulded bargeboards with pendants to gables, with paired stacks to centre right and to rear transverse wing. Three stone mullioned windows o 3 and 2 lights and boarded door in four centred arch to centre light in gabled porch on posts. Mullioned bay window to right return. Mullioned and casement windows to rear wing. The lodge was possibly designed by Anthony Salvin who built the new house at Scotney Castle 1837-44, to which this is a gate lodge in Tudor style.
