Full Description
(TR 08574861) In 1909, H.F Butcher, (then 16) found brickwork, in the form of an arch covering a "Water tank" 9ft deep, 2ft below the surface on the right hand side of the porch at Crundale Church. (1) Remains of Roman foundations were found about 1908 in digging graves in Crundale churchyard. Information from Sir W. St John Hope. [It is assumed that this refers to the previous entry]. (2) The Rev Brade-Birkes F.S.A., rector of Crundale for many years, considers these are two separate finds. Although he has kept watch here no further discoveries have been made during his incumbancy. (3) KE 19 Listed as the possible site of a Roman villa. (4)
