The following text is from the original listed building designation:
ST JOHN'S ROAD 1. 1746 (West Side) Canon Hoare Memorial TQ 584 SW 5/314 II 2. Late Cl9. Built of Tunbridge Wells stone. Square pillar with angle buttresses, surmounted by a crocket and 4 figures of the Evangelists. Inscription to the memory of Edward Hoare Vicar of Holy Trinity Church for nearly 41 years, born in 1812, died in 1894.
