Monument record TR 04 NE 37 - Earthwork of former chalk pit, near Coombe Wood, Godmersham
Summary
A large curvilinear bank in the form of a soilmark is located in fields near Coombe Wood in the south of Godmersham parish. This feature was previously associated with a trackway running to the west. Both these features were damaged by ploughing in 1979. Analysis of the Ordnance Survey historic maps shows the feature marked on the 1st and 2nd edition maps of c.1861-1895 as a 'Chalk Pit'.
