Monument record TR 04 NW 4 - Anglo-Saxon inhumation burial, Boughton Aluph

Summary

An Anglo-Saxon burial was found between 1902 and 1904 at Tarbutt's chalk quarry near Boughton Aluph. The skeleton was found with a sword, an iron spearhead and ten Roman coins. The chalk quarry has long ceased to be function and no more is known about the discovery of these artefacts. It is thought that at present the finds are located in the Maidstone or Rochester Museums. The site extends down the lower, south-east facing slopes of a chalk spur, overlooking the Stour Valley. OD 80-100m.
