Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
LAMBERHURST HOOK GREEN TQ 63 NE (south side) 3/181 Elephants Head Public House GV II
Public House. C16 or earlier altered early C19. Timber framed and part exposed with plaster infill on first floor and with painted brick infill to return elevations, ground floor rebuilt with sandstone. Plain tiled roof. Four framed bay range with return wings. Two storeys on plinth with continuous jetty to first floor with ogee braced frame. Hipped roof with stacks to right and clustered at left. Two 2 light and two central four light windows on each floor, the central ground floor windows in shallow stone bays, wooden casements on first floor and with painted brick mullions on ground floor. Rib and stud doors to left and to right. Exposed frame on left return elevation less altered especially on the ground floor, with irregular casements and panelled door wih flat hood on brackets with outshots and single storey extensions to rear. Tile hung right return. Interior: large brick fireplaces, exposed frame and largely C19 ground floor, the sandstone blocks showing weathering on the inner face and probably re-used from elsewhere.
