TQ 53 NW SPELDHURST ASHURST HILL, ASHURST
7/443 Towner Jones chest tomb approx 12m north east of the chancel of the Church of St Martin GV II
Chest tomb. Dated 1811 in memory of William Towner Jones. Sandstone chest tomb is rectangular in plan with moulded corner pilasters, plain panelled sides, flat lid with moulded edges, moulded base and plain plinth. Lid is inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and records the death of William Towner Jones in 1811. Chest tomb is fenced by plain railings set into the plinth and the standards have bulbous finials.
