Monument record TR 04 NW 13 - Lynchet earthwork, Sokum Downs, Boughton Aluph

Summary

An earthwork was identified on the slope of a hill on Sokum Downs in the 1930's, a few hundred yards north-west of Sokum Farm, Boughton Aluph. This feature was then thought to consist of a deep vallum (Roman pallisade) with a projection facing the valley below and a platform at the end of the ridge. The only feature that has since been recorded at Soakham Downs is a lynchet and a short natural spur, possibly the `projection' seen in the 1930's.
