Summary

The site of Greatstone battery, an emergency battery built during the Second World War as part of Eastern Command's coastal defences. The battery mounted two 6-inch breech-loading guns. It is referenced as being manned by 415 Coast Battery Royal Artillery in 1940 and by 333 Battery of 551 Coast Regiment in 1942. Aerial photography from 1979 shows that the site is occupied by housing and no features of the battery remain.

Greatstone coastal battery located at TR 082 226. This was an emergency battery built during the Second World War as part of Eastern Command's coastal defences. The battery mounted two 6-inch guns. It is referenced as being manned by 415 Coast Battery and 333 Battery of 551 Coast Regiment between September 1940 and April 1942. (2)

Aerial photography from 1979 shows that the site is occupied by housing and no features of the battery remain. (3)
