Full Description

At the edge of a small quarry near the top of Dover Hill, Folkestone.Type 22 pillbox. Detached blast wall to rear. Very overgrown. Built of reinforced concrete and in poor condition.

Type 22 pillbox, with very thick detached blast wall (27ins of concrete plus 13.5ins of brick) to rear. 9ft 6ins walls. Corrugated iron spans the gap between the pillbox and the blast wall and earth has been added over this. Small embrasures, widely splayed to the outside. Type 22 pillbox of variant form, with guarded covered concrete entrance; brick straight blast wall. Vertical wood inserts for shelves fitted under each embrasure. 4 x main embrasures blocked by brickwork. Entrance rifle embrasure blocked by later construction. Field of fire S towards Folkestone. With PLAN drawn on form. [Recorder Farthing gives NGR - TR 239378 which may be to this site, or it is possible that Farthing's site is a new one]. Crete Road East, Dover. (1) A Second World War type 22 pillbox is visible as a building on aerial photographs, and remains extant on aerial photographs taken in 2007. The site is centred on TR 2404 3774. This site has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP (Component 2) (2-3)
