Full Description
Chafford Bridge, adjacent to the road. Standard type 24 pillbox, brick-shuttered, situated adjacent to Fordcombe - Chiddingstone Hoath road, set low into ground at embrasure level. Field of fire to SE to bridge across river.
A Pillbox Study Group assessment described the pillbox "Standard brick shuttered shell proof Type 24 with 7 embrasures. Located at LAT: 51. 142865 LONG: 0. 16259015 NGR: TQ51375 40401. Is set back from the main defensive line, located along field boundary by small hedgerow and trees and under a large tree. Has a small ditch running NE/SW along front face. Has field of fire toward the SSE providing covering fire toward Chafford Bridge and also providing cover for T28 S0001916 and T24 Nos. S0001915 & S0001897. In very good condition with all brickwork in situ. No internal identification number."(1)
Pillbox, unidentifiable due to plant coverage.
Type 24 standard pillbox, brick-shuttered, situated on field boundary in heavy undergrowth. with PLAN drawn on form. Beside the road from Chafford Green to Walter's Green. (2)
