Full Description
The Defence of Britain Project (1995-2001) found references in archive documents to a number of Second World War pillboxes in the vicinity of Folkestone Harbour. The exact location of these is unknown hence they have been placed in this record at an appropximately central point.
The archive document (12 Corps Plan to Defeat Invasion) identified 3 pillboxes in the vicinity of the harbour. Each was within Sector 4 of the defence plan and had a 'cassini' reference. This was a wartime co-ordinate system that divided territory into a number of grid squares. The Cassini references to not translate easily or accurately into Ordnance Survey co-ordinates however.
