Findspot record TR 04 SW 20 - Mesolithic flint knife and Neolithic axe, Willesborough

Summary

A Neolithic polished greenstone axe was found in the 1930's 50m to the south of Willesborough Church. A small Mesolithic flint knife was also found in the same location: these finds were brought to the surface during ploughing, but no subsequent discoveries have been made at the site The present location of both artefacts is unknown.

Full Description

TR 031415. Neolithic polished greenstone axe found by Mrs Oetzman, The Elms, Hinxhill, Ashford. Sectioned County No Kent 40. (1)

The axe was found in the 1930's by Mrs Oetzmen's brother while engaged on farmwork. Mrs Oetzmen, who retains the axe, sited the findstop to TR 02864148 (surveyed at 1:2500), which is a spot in the road bank 50.0m S of Willesborough Church. A small honey-coloured Me flint knife in Mrs. Oetzmen's possession, was found by her brother about the same time, in the field centred at TR 021413, whilst ploughing. (2)
