Full Description

William Lambarde's "Carde" of c. 1570 shows a beacon at Ightham, and a total of 52 beacons in Kent. The Beacon system dropped out of use after 1640. (1) A natural prominence on the southern slope of Raspit Hill, called "Beacon Mount", perhaps marks the site of this beacon but there is no evidence to support this on the ground. Nothing of significance was found or noted when the house "Raspit Hill" nearby was built some 40 years ago. (2)
