Full Description
The presumed remains of the Roman road from the Benenden area to the Ashford area were excavated in October 2001. A 10 m x 0.5 m trench was excavated. The agger was reused as a boundary marker in the medieval or post medieval period. The assumed southern edge of the Roman road was found 4.5 m north of the ditch. The top of the slag road was 0.23 m below the topsoil and the road surface was 2.17 m wide with no traces of roadside ditches.(1)
