Full Description

An archaeological evaluation in 2003 found a large pit, probably a soil quarry, containing medieval roof tiles and a iron bucket handle. The pit was oval shaped, c. 2 m across and only 50 cm deep. A small iron bucket handle was found in the fill.

The evaluation also found several medieval soil horizons across the site but concluded that the site had been truncated by the construction of the cattle market in the mid 19th century destroying any remains of the town defences.(1)
