Full Description

The site of the Admiralty Victualling Office serving the warships based at Chatham. It originally consisted of a bake house, slaughter house, curing houses for pork and beef, cooperage and store houses and adjoining wharf. The site ceased to be used by the Admiralty in the early 1800s when supply was concentrated on Deptford. Buildings on site were used for a variety of purposes including by Woodhams and Co brewers and maltsters as stores and stabling. Part of the site was taken by the South Eastern Railway's Chatham Central station. The site was subsequently cleared and occupied by student accommodation and a car park
