Full Description

73 burials of post medieval date, most of which were next to St. Faith's church. Skeletons show mixture of ages from infant to adult. 68 skeletons found in one area next to St Faith's Church which contained 39 adult, 9 probable adult, 12 juvenile, 3 probable juvenile and 5 infant skeletons, while a separate group of five (adult) skeletons was discovered further away in the NW corner of Brenchley Gardens. For about one fifth of the skeletons there were some associated finds such as coffin fittings (nails and brackets), and shroud pins. Also found in one of the grave fills was a medieval D shaped iron belt buckle similar to ones found elsewhere which date to the C14th. Some medieval pottery (ranging in date from AD 1050 to 1450) was found in the area of St Faith's church which pre-dates the burials and which indicates that there was some activity here in medieval times. More human remains found nearby at Station road, probably also part of the former burial ground of St Faith's church (2)

In 2009 a watching brief was maintained during ground reduction works carried out as part of garden re-landscaping. A small quantity of disarticulated human bone was recovered, representing up to 15 individuals buried in the post-medieval cemetery associated with St. Faith's Chapel (3)
