Lydd Airport opened on 5th April 1956 as 'Ferryfield' Airport, flying a fleet of Silver City Bristol 170s (car-carrying planes) to Le Touquet. By 1970 this had become uncompetitive and the last car-carrying service flew in 1970. The airfield remains a commercial airfield
