Full Description
In 2008 the Lenham Archaeological Society commissioned the Bartlett-Clark Consultancy to carry out a magnetometry survey at Court Meadow, Lenham, where cropmark evidence suggested a rectangular structure might lie and where fieldwalking had recovered iron slag. Various features were detected, possibly indicating fired pottery or industrial waste or a kiln of furnace.
There were 5 areas of anomalies:
A. Pit like anomalies close to the position of the rectangular cropmark
B. Cluster of anomalies close to A that may indicate fired ceramics or industiral waste. May also indicate a former building
C. Similar to B
D. Very strong anomalies that might indicate a buried industrial feature such as a kiln or furnace
E. Similar to D close to a small pond (1)
