Full Description
In 2006 a watching brief was carried out during the construction of new stables and a sand school.
No finds or features were observed in the stables area. However, in the north east corner of the sand school a feature was discovered, 2 m x 3 m across and 100 mm deep. It was filled with a large quantity of mid 13th to mid 15th century pottery plus tile, bone, shell and an iron nail. The feature is interpreted as a possible midden. The pottery was unabraded and was probably deposited fairly close to the site. The excavators therefore suggested that medieval settlement may have existed fairly close by. (1)
