Monument record TR 05 SW 7 - Windmill mound, Kings Wood, Godmersham
Summary
A suspected windmill mound is located in King's Wood. This mound is fairly large at 30m in diameter and nearly 2m in height and has a large flat top. Thus its position and general appearance suggest it is most likely a windmill mound. The proximity of a small quarry is though to be further evidence in support of this identification, as this could have acted as a source of material for the mounds construction. There is no evidence of this structure on the Ordnance Survey historic maps but a record of a smock mill is noted in Jenny West's Windmills of Kent of 1979.
