Monument record TR 06 NW 2 - Possible Roman building, Ferry Fields, Isle of Harty

Summary

Roman roofing tiles, pottery and coins were found in Ferry Fields, Harty and a quern fragment found in nearby marshes. Later inspections, however, revealed no further material in these locations.

Full Description

[Area: TR 01506608] Harty; many roofing tiles, a piece of Samian and coins of Constantine found in Ferry Fields, behind Ferry House, and a quern from the marshes below Hockett's Farm, a little to the west, seem to indicate the site of a house. (1). Area Centred TR 01286622. Ferry Fields was indicated by Mr E Studd, Farm Bailiff for Mockett's Farm. The field is now permanent pasture, but nothing had been turned up in it, in his time, during past ploughing. No finds were made in a perambulation of the field, and the present whereabouts of finds was not ascertained (2). Additional reference (3). KE 42 Listed as the possible site of a Roman villa. (4)
