Monument record TR 06 NW 16 - Salt mound, Isle of Harty

Summary

This earth mound on the Harty Marshes is thought to be the remains of medieval salt workings. The mound is 2-3m high and about 50m by 30m in area. On the southeastern side of the mound shallow curved embankments were noted in 2005, and it is suggested that these could be the remains of salt pans. Earth mounds similar to this are found in large numbers on Sheppey, Harty and at Seasalter.
