Summary

This earth mound on the Harty Marshes represents the remains of medieval salt working. A large number of such mounds are found in the salt water creeks of the Isles of Sheppey and Harty and also at Seasalter.

Full Description

Salt working mound situated on the Harty Marshes at TR 02976725. Surveyed at 1:2500 [For salt-working on Sheppey see TQ 97 SW 6] (1) (TR 02856723) Medieval Saltworks (NR) (2) Isles of Sheppey and Harty: The salt water creeks of these isles contain a large number of mounds similar to those excavated at Seasalter (TR 06 SE 6). They represent the remains of medieval salt working (3). Additional reference (4,5) and site photographs (6-8).
