Full Description

During the summer of 1871, a number of cinerary urns were dug up on Uplees Farm: they were all found in a piece of land a few feet square, the soil of which was nearly black. (1) [TR 0000 6440] Romano-British Cinerary Urns found 1871. [Approximate siting only.] (2) Present location of the urns has not been ascertained. Authority 2's siting falls within an allotment garden. Enquiries of a gardener there were negative. Mr Epps, of Uplees Farm, (owner) stated that nothing of archaeological interest had been turned up during his many years ownership of several hundred acres of the marshes. He added that no ploughing is done on account of many building foundations every 50 or 60 yards, but that these are remains of 1914-18 defence works. (3)
