Summary

In 1857, a Roman long-necked pot was found on the bank on the north side of Davington watermill. Exactly which watermill is being referrred to is unknown, but is thought to be the one at the Oare (Davington) Gunpowder Works.

Full Description

In 1857, a Roman earthen vessel, shaped like an oil-flask, with a longneck, was found in the bank on the north side of Davington watermill. (1) In the bank north of Davington water-mill, an earthen vessel, holding about half a gallon, was found in 1857. (2) [Area TR 0015 6227] Sited to north bank of the stream of Oare Powder Works, the only mills shown in Davington parish in the Tithe Map of 1846 (3). Additional references (4-6).
