Full Description

Second World War air raid wardens post built in 1939 at the junction of Pine Avenue and Church Walk with Old Road East, Gravesend. It was one of a network of such posts serving Gravesend, as a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. It reported to a control centre, first at the old town hall in Gravesend and later to a control centre at the new police station in Windmill Street. It would have been decommissioned by May of 1945 and demolished post-war, perhaps in 1947.
