Second World War public air raid shelter for 80 people in the basement of 8 The Hill, Northfleet. This appears to have adapted and probably extended existing shop premises. The ceiling would have been strutted for increased resilience. A doored structure from the basement into the street appears to have a shape typical of an emergency exit from an air raid shelter. The shelter, which could not be inspected, and whose design is unknown, probably originated in 1939 or 1940 and was decommissioned in 1945. The premises continued in use as a shop, most recently as a Tandoori Take Away, now closed.
