Full Description
Second World War air raid siren mounted on top of the clock tower of Lawn Road School in 1939 to warn those in the community of the approach of enemy air raiders and to give the all-clear. The siren was a metallic electrically-operated device with rotating steel blades to produce the required modulations of sound. It would have been decommissioned by the Spring of 1945 and probably removed by around the end of the same year. The tower of the school and the school in general were subsequently demolished to make way for a replacement school.
