Full Description
Second World War air raid wardens post at the Wellington Arms Public House, Wellington Street, Gravesend. It was established in 1939 and probably went out of use in 1940-41, when public house premises tended to be suceeded by purpose-built structures. It appears to have occupied a room within the public house premises. As one of a network of such posts serving Gravesend, it was a local focus in the incident reporting chain for coordinating the emergency services in the event of injury or damage resulting from an air raid. Its patrolling wardens enfored blackout restrictions. It reported to a control centre at the Old Town Hall. The public house was demolished at an unknown date post war.
